Trees and autumn grasses at Yellowstone National Park, WY.
I created this piece at Yellowstone National Park in the fall, when the grasses were full of vibrant colors but the dead lodgepole pines had cooler tones, separated by the white "bobby socks" at the base of the trees. This is caused by the mineral-laden water in the hydrothermal areas. When the water evaporates, the minerals are left behind, turning the lower portion of the trees white.
